Mentors are named for NEX GEN Class of 2017-18 8/29/17

Nine of the brightest talents in the newspaper industry will be serving as mentors for SNPA's NEX GEN Class of 2017-18.

The NEX GEN protégés will meet for the first time with their mentors at the SNPA-Inland Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs, Colo., Sept. 10-12. The 2017-18 NEX GEN experience will culminate with a presentation at SNPA's 2018 News Industry Summit in Nashville.


Herald-Journal announces production changes 8/29/17

Spartanburg Herald-Journal Publisher Kevin Drake has announced that the Herald-Journal will be printed in Gastonia, N.C., beginning Sept. 18.


Creative Circle launches new websites, print redesign 8/22/17

Fourth Amendment protects against warrantless seizure of cellphone location records, amicus brief argues 8/14/17

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and a coalition of 19 other media organizations have submitted a friend-of-the-court brief to the Supreme Court of the United States in the case of Carpenter v. United States. The coalition brief urges the Supreme Court to reverse a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and require the government to abide by the Fourth Amendment and obtain a warrant to access cellphone location records. The case raises concern for media organizations because the government could access cellphone location records that reveal the newsgathering activities of journalists without adhering to any constitutional safeguards.


Morris Communications announces sale of newspaper publications to GateHouse Media 8/14/17

Morris Communications has announced that it is selling 11 of its daily and non-daily newspaper holdings, its Lubbock, Texas-based commercial printing operation and other related publications to GateHouse Media, Inc. The sale is part of the company's strategic restructuring to focus its business on lifestyle and niche publications, broadband operations, property development and new business and is expected to be finalized on Oct. 2.


Boone subsidiary to purchase The Valley Times-News 8/14/17

An agreement has been reached in principle for the sale of operating assets and real estate of The Valley Times-News by Valley Newspapers, Inc. and its owner, Nell Walls. The transaction's legal paper work will be completed and signed in September and the transaction will close effective Oct. l.

This daily newspaper serves West Point, Ga., Lanett and Valley, Ala., from its office in West Point.


Presteligence adds geo-targeting to mobile apps for football season 8/14/17

Presteligence has added a new feature to the My Team Scoop app where publishers can geo-target event locations. The app will send notifications to users within the specified vicinity of a stadium and during a specified time.

Dallas Morning News parent contracts with Gannett to produce print, digital ads 8/7/17
