Muhs resigns as State Journal-Register editor 5/21/19

Executive Editor Angie Muhs has resigned after five years with The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Ill.

Muhs, a native of Olney in southern Illinois, had a successful tenure at the SJ-R, leading statewide projects and editorial campaigns during the historic two years Illinois was without a state budget.


KPA's David Thompson wins award for public service 5/21/19

The longest-serving executive of any U.S. newspaper association, Kentucky Press Association Executive Director David Thompson, is the 2019 winner of the Al Smith Award for public service through community journalism by a Kentuckian.

Thompson will receive the award Sept. 26, the 36th anniversary of taking the job. No other current member of the Newspaper Association Managers, which serves groups in the U.S. and Canada, has served so long as chief executive of an association.


Paul Mauney to join The Greeneville Sun/APGMedia of TN/NC/VA 5/21/19

After a career in the newspaper business of more than 48 years – 33 of which have been spent in Greeneville, Tenn., with The Greeneville Sun and its sister companies – John E. Cash, has announced his retirement, effective July 31.

Having held several positions in a company that is now owned by the Adams family of Adams Publishing Group (APG), Cash for the last two years has been acting as general manager of The Greeneville Sun and chief revenue officer for Adams Publishing Group's Tennessee/North Carolina/Virginia region.

Family-owned Adams Publishing Group, based in Minneapolis, Minn., also announced the hiring of GateHouse Media executive Paul W. Mauney to succeed Cash.

Thomas named ad director of The Walton Tribune 5/14/19

Rose Thomas has been named advertising director of The Walton Tribune in Monroe, Ga. She succeeds Madison Graham, who is remaining on the paper's staff in a part-time position as an advertising consultant.

SNHU associate dean named new director of UFCJC Distance Education Program 5/14/19

The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications has announced that Dr. Evan Kropp will join the College as the new director of Distance Education overseeing all online master's and certificate programs. He will join the College on June 17.

Kropp currently is associate dean of communication at Southern New Hampshire University, which has one of the largest online programs in the nation with more than 130,000 students.


Mark Aldam elected chairman of the News Media Alliance 5/7/19

The News Media Alliance has elected Mark Aldam, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Hearst, as its chairman of the Board of Directors for the 2019-2020 term. Aldam, who previously served as vice chairman, succeeds Terry Kroeger, president and CEO of Smith Kroeger Marketing Communications.
