Halifax Media Group closes sale of Sebring News-Sun
Halifax Media has sold the Sebring (Fla.) News-Sun to Sun Coast Media Group, Inc. based in Port Charlotte, Fla. Halifax Media purchased the Sebring News-Sun in September 2013 from HarborPoint Media as part of an acquisition that also included the Leesburg Daily Commercial and the Clermont South Lake Press.
"The Sebring News-Sun and their excellent employees are a great match for the Sun Coast Media Group. Sun Coast Media has newspapers and publications near Sebring and throughout the region, including Port Charlotte and Venice, so Sebring is an excellent addition to their group," said Michael Redding, CEO of Halifax Media Group. "The Dunn-Rankins have published newspapers in the area for many years and are well respected. They will continue to invest and grow the business. We wish all the Sebring News-Sun employees and Sun Coast Media the best."
The Naples (Fla.) Daily News has won a National Edward R. Murrow Award for Feature Reporting in the category of Online News Organizations for the multimedia effort, "Little Man and the Pursuit of Happiness."
The paper's award-winning print and online series documented Ethan Arbelo's battle with terminal brain cancer until his death in July 2014 at age 12.
Naples Daily News photojournalist Dania Maxwell was honored with the Murrow Award – which typically recognizes broadcast journalists – for her documentary film that was part of the paper's online coverage.
Maxwell's video also was recognized last fall as the GRAND PRIZE winner in SNPA's Photo / Video Contest. Entries in the 2015 contest are being accepted now. The deadline for entries is just two weeks away – July 13. (Learn more about the SNPA Photo / Video Contest and submit your entries)More
