Gannett names John Fenix VP/labor relations

John H. M. Fenix has been named vice president of labor relations for Gannett Co. Inc., effective July 11. Fenix has had 30 years of experience representing newspapers in labor negotiations and in employment law matters. He has counseled several newspaper chains and major market dailies, including the former Scripps newspapers; The Los Angeles Times; the Chicago Sun Times; the New York Post; and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Fenix will be Gannett's senior labor lawyer responsible for all of the company's labor and employment matters. 

"We are delighted to bring someone on board someone with John's depth of experience and understanding of the labor and employment issues that we face. John will be a valuable business partner for all of our properties," said Barbara Wall, chief legal officer at Gannett. 

Fenix was named Ohio "Legal Leader" in 2014 by Martindale Hubbell and Ohio "Super Lawyer" in 2004 by Law & Politics and Cincinnati Magazine. He is a former Ohio Open squash champion and a nationally-ranked squash player.
