Kurt Caywood promoted to VP of audience for Morris Publishing Group

Kurt Caywood, vice president of audience for The Florida Times-Union, has been named vice president of audience for Morris Publishing Group.  The announcement was made by Derek May, president of Morris Publishing Group. 

"Kurt is the perfect choice to step in and accelerate the expansion of our audience," said May. "He has the experience and innovative spirit that we are looking for as we transform the company." 

Caywood started his career as a sportswriter at The Lawrence (Kan.) Journal-World in 1987 and spent the next 20 years in various newsroom positions. In 2007, he was named director of audience development at The Capital-Journal. He has spent the past three years leading the Times-Union audience initiatives. 

"Creating the best content – telling the best, most important stories – is what we're all about," Caywood said. "At the same time, growing our digital business is key to continuing our crucial journalistic mission. Morris long has been known for its leadership in digital innovation, and I'm thrilled by this chance to keep building on that foundation." 

Caywood is a graduate of the University of Kansas. He and his wife, Missy, have two children, Jack and Madeline. His mother, Barbara Caywood, was a longtime sportswriter at Florida Today in Melbourne and is a Florida High School Athletic Association hall of fame inductee.
