GateHouse Media launches Florida Time weekly history column

Posted

GateHouse Media has launched Florida Time, a weekly Florida history column from The Palm Beach Post historian and reporter, Eliot Kleinberg. The series launched on Jan. 3 across 22 Florida markets including Jacksonville, Fort Walton Beach, Daytona Beach, Lakeland, Sarasota and West Palm Beach.

Entertaining and historical stories are featured each week on topics such as Juan Ponce de Leon's search for the Fountain of Youth, how Florida got its name, Spanish for "flowers," and how modern Florida sprang in 1964 from the forehead of Walt Disney.

In addition to the print and digital column, Florida Time is also distributed on Facebook pages and niche groups, with plans to launch a newsletter and call-in line called "Reader Rewind" that will be edited into an audio montage of readers' memories. Launching in March, the Florida Time newsletter will feature each week's column, other Florida history facts, nostalgia and more. It will be a forum for subscribers to learn something new and to educate others about the amazing history of Florida.
