Church directories generate 100% new revenue

Another entry from SNPA's Best Revenue Contest

Posted by

The Northern Virginia Daily in Strasburg, Va., generated $12,000 last year in 100 percent new revenue with three church directories.

Mike Gochenour, publisher of the 12,000-circulation paper, said: "The church directories not only generated revenue, but helped further develop a relationship with the pastors for future projects."

He said, "The price point was key – most of the churches in our area are very small with very small budgets as well.  We feel we can grow this project even more the next time, now that everyone has seen it."

The Northern Virginia Daily ran house ads to compile a free basic listing of the churches, which was the content. The directories also included one local story, and then the paper sold display ads.

Gochenour said. "We cover a three-county region, so we did one for each county. We only inserted it into the papers it covered, so the press run for each was relatively small compared to the revenue."
