RJI Futures Lab update #44

Accelerating media startups at Matter, and mobile innovation from Adobe

Posted

In this week's Futures Lab update, the Reynolds Journalism Institute looks at how the start-up accelerator Matter nurtures media innovation, and how software giant Adobe is approaching the mobile platform.

PART 1: Growing media start-ups at Matter
Since its launch in 2012, the start-up accelerator Matter has helped more than a dozen teams of entrepreneurs build skills and advance their ideas through a five-month intensive program. RJI visited Matter's workspace to learn more about how the program is fostering innovation.

PART 2: Publishing across platforms with Woopie
Among the start-ups in Matter's second cohort, Woopie is a tool that provides responsive templates for publishers to use to design and publish print, Web and mobile content. Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Martha Rotter explains how it works.

PART 3: Looking toward mobile at Adobe
Software giant Adobe has a well-established suite of multimedia pro tools geared toward desktop computers, but as Adobe Senior Product Manager for Mobile John Nack says, the company is challenging itself to bring its expertise to the mobile market.
