SNPA has named eight members to its inaugural Research and Development Advisory Committee for 2017-18.

The committee will provide input on how to improve the value of SNPA memberships for R&D partners, according to Les Simpson, who will be nominated next Monday to become the next president of SNPA.  Simpson is publisher of the Amarillo (Texas) Globe-News.

"These companies are vital to the success of not only our industry, but to SNPA as well," Simpson said. "Their participation at our meetings is vital to help us maintain quality programming and affordable costs for our members. We hope to help them find even more value for their investment in SNPA."

The eight members selected for the committee are:

  • Greg Booras, The Newspaper Manager by Mirabel Technologies
  • Kevin A. Craig, AGM/Parade
  • Al Cupo, Brainworks Software
  • Deborah Dreyfuss-Tuchman, Adpay, an Ancestry.com company
  • Richard Jones, Proven Performance Media
  • Hugh Nicholson, NRS Media
  • Sammy Papert, Wormhole, Inc.
  • Tom Ratkovich, LEAP Media Solutions

Simpson said the original plan was to name four to six members to the committee, but the number of applicants and their experience led to eight members being named.

"It's obvious that there's a desire to evaluate how to better serve our R&D partners," Simpson said. "And we will be using the committee and others in our organization to improve."

Committee members appreciated the move by SNPA and look forward to the discussions.

"This is an important demonstration of their ongoing commitment to adding partner value through stronger relationships between the R&D community and SNPA members," said Deborah Dreyfuss-Tuchman of Adpay. "I am proud to have been selected to serve on the inaugural SNPA R&D Advisory Committee."

Tom Ratkovich of LEAP Media Solutions said he believes the newspapers and companies that serve them have the same goal.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with publishers and industry partners in pursuit of a purpose that is near and dear to my heart: the sustained vibrancy of the news media," Ratkovich said.

Kevin Craig, with AMG/Parade, said his organization has always found great value in SNPA.

"I am honored to have been selected to serve on SNPA's inaugural Research and Development Advisory Committee for 2017-2018," Craig said.  "SNPA has always been an indispensable resource for AMG/Parade and I'm eager to help improve the experience for current members while also assisting with its growth and prosperity in the years to come."

The committee will have its first meeting in Colorado Springs during the joint conference featuring SNPA and the Inland Press Association.

"We'll be reporting our efforts back to the SNPA board as well as our R&D and newspaper members," Simpson said. "I know that we can count on everyone to work together to help make SNPA more valuable to everyone."
