Times editor named general manager of Cape Cod Media Group
Paul Pronovost, the Cape Cod Times' executive editor, has been promoted to general manager of Cape Cod Media Group, according to an announcement Monday by Peter Meyer, regional vice president of GateHouse Media.
In addition to his existing responsibilities, Pronovost, who has served as editor since 2005, will be in charge of marketing strategy and will serve as community liaison, Meyer said in an email to employees of GateHouse Media, parent company of the Times.
"With a deep knowledge of the Cape's marketplace and customer needs, (Pronovost) will facilitate business plan development and bring together our best thinking to create future growth," Meyer wrote.
Cape Cod Media Group comprises the Times and seven weekly newspapers.
Pronovost described the new role as a natural move given his extensive community involvement, including his regular contact with civic groups, readers and advertisers.
"I'm excited about this," he said. "I love Cape Cod, and to have a larger connection with the community is a good thing."
After graduating from St. Anselm College, Pronovost joined Community Newspaper Co. in Needham in 1996. He has held editorial management roles at a number of Massachusetts publications, including the Country Gazette, Neponset Valley Daily News and MetroWest Daily News.
Pronovost worked briefly at the Boston office of the Better Business Bureau as chief spokesman and media strategist while pursuing a master's degree in public administration from Suffolk University, returning to journalism two years later at the Walpole Times.
Pronovost said the promotion would likely deepen his Cape journalism roots.
"It won't change really anything I've been doing," he said. "This just expands on that."
Meyer, who was recently named president and publisher of The Providence Journal, said Pronovost would work closely with him on "market strategy and financial performance."
"Paul is well prepared for this promotion," he said.
Pronovost was recently named GateHouse Editor of the Year.
