Daytona Beach News-Journal publisher Bill Offill has been promoted to the position of group publisher for three GateHouse Media newspapers in Florida, the company announced Friday.

Offill will now serve as publisher of the Times-Union, the St. Augustine Record and The News-Journal.

"I really look forward to working with the quality teams already in place at the Times-Union and the Record," Offill said. "Both newspapers have great track records for providing strong news coverage and valuable advertising for their respective communities, and my goal is to help the staffs do all they can to build on those already-strong reputations both in print and online.

"Additionally, I want to get to know those communities and the newspapers' customers as well as I have come to know Daytona Beach and the rest of Volusia and Flagler counties."

On Thursday, Times-Union President Mark Nusbaum announced he will retire near the end of this year.

Offill has been publisher of The News-Journal since 2013, and has more than three decades of experience in the newspaper industry.
