Veteran newspaper executive Mark C. Elliott has been appointed publisher of the Mt. Vernon (Ill.) Register News and the McLeansboro Times-Leader.

Elliott has been the advertising director for the Anderson (Ind.) Herald Bulletin for the last two years, and the Goshen (Ind.) News for two years before that.

Previously, he also served in executive advertising and marketing roles for newspapers in Arkansas, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut.

"Mark's accomplishments over the years have groomed him to become the type of market-conscious publisher who will contribute to the progress of the Register News and the Times-Leader," said Robyn McCloskey, operations vice president for Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., parent company of the newspapers.

"He has the background in print and online content that will help move both newspapers farther into the digital age in serving both markets."

Elliott said he's "delighted with the opportunity to work with the staffs, residents and advertisers of the Mt. Vernon and McLeansboro markets. The role of community newspapers has never been more important in providing content the public wants, needs and values in print and online."

The Register News publishes three days a week – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The McLeansboro Times-Leaders publishes weekly on Thursdays.
