It didn't take Nathan Edwards long to decide that leading the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American was a good fit for him and his family.

"It's a fantastic opportunity. I'm extremely impressed with the city and the friendliness of the people," Edwards said. "To me, it's just unlimited opportunity."

Edwards, the former vice president of sales for The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle, has been named as the new general manager for the Hattiesburg American, Gannett Regional President Jason Taylor said Friday. He is expected to begin his new role March 2.

"Nate will work with our news and advertising teams to strengthen our products, engage our readers, and help to continue moving the Pine Belt forward," Taylor said.

Edwards and Taylor worked together several years ago when Edwards served as classifieds director at the Chattanooga Times Free Press, of which Taylor was then publisher.
