Melody Brunson, veteran editor of the Washington (Ind.) Times Herald, has been appointed publisher of the newspaper.

Brunson will retain her editor title as well, said Robyn McCloskey, group publisher for the Times Herald's parent company, Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc.

"As a lifetime resident of Daviess County, Melody has the market knowledge and experience to serve in both roles and move the Times Herald forward," said McCloskey. "Her sense of community and understanding of content that readers want and need make her a good fit for the dual role."

Brunson said her goal is to continue growing the paper's digital readership through audience engagement on social media, expanded use of video and by touching the lives of residents with news and information they find useful in print and online.

"I am excited about the paper's greater ability to reach readers and advertisers through the use of digital platforms as well as in print," she said. "We see this as expanding our opportunity for success."

Brunson joined the Times Herald upon graduating from Vincennes University in 1985 with a degree in journalism. She started as a reporter and moved up to the editor's position four years later. She grew up on a farm in Daviess County.

The Times Herald celebrated its 150th anniversary in June. The paper also publishes two lifestyle magazines and a farm publication.
