Dale Brendel, publisher of the Stillwater (Okla.) News Press, has been appointed by Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc., to also serve as publisher of the Muskogee Phoenix and the Tahlequah Daily Press.

He will oversee operations of the three dailies, including their news and advertising content in print and online.

"We're excited to have Dale's depth of newspaper experience expanded to Muskogee and Tahlequah," said Mike Beatty, CNHI's group publisher. "He has a rich background of success in the community newspaper field."

Brendel joined the Stillwater News Press four years ago as general manager and editor. He was promoted to publisher a year later. He has more than 25 years of experience in the multimedia news business in Missouri and Oklahoma as a reporter, editor and operations executive.

Under Brendel's leadership, The News Press has won several coveted awards, including consecutive Sequoyah Awards from the Oklahoma Press Association as the top newspaper in its circulation category. It was also twice honored with the General Excellence Award by the Oklahoma Associated Press, and earned the national Society of Professional Journalist's Sigma Delta Chi breaking news photography award in 2015.

"It is important that local newspapers engage the community in order to inform them to the best of our ability," said Brendel.

A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Brendel has been active in community and service organizations in Stillwater. He said he intends to also get involved in local civic organizations in Muskogee and Tahlequah.
