Record Editor Don Blount has been named GateHouse Media's California state editor.

He is one of 13 state editors across the country named last week as part of a project to reorganize and refocus newsroom efforts to better serve readers.

"This is a talented, experienced group of editors who knows how to overcome challenges and drive results," said Bill Church, GateHouse senior vice president of news. "Their commitment to doing journalism with impact is balanced by a heartfelt dedication to their newsrooms and communities."

"I'm excited about this opportunity to coordinate on journalism with other editors in California," Blount said. "My commitment to this area and The Record remain the same. This will provide additional avenues to strengthen journalism and storytelling throughout California."

In addition to continuing his role as editor of The Record, Blount will lead and coordinate newsroom efforts for the company's 10 California properties, including five daily newspapers.

"This is a great growth opportunity for Don, for this region and the other GateHouse newspapers in California," said Deitra Kenoly, president and publisher of The Record. "By coordinating and understanding what's going on throughout the state, we will gain more ways to do journalism with impact while still supporting our commitment to telling local stories."

Blount, 57, has been editor of The Record since 2017, and previously served as managing editor for 12 years.

A Philadelphia native, he has worked for newspapers in Sacramento and Modesto, Denver and Allentown, Penn.
