Stephen Wade has been promoted to president of The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle and Chronicle Media. The announcement was made by William S. Morris III, publisher of The Augusta Chronicle and chairman of Morris Communications.

"Steve has done a great job operating and managing The Chronicle. I feel confident that he is the right leader, at the right time, to grow and evolve our business in greater Augusta," Morris said.

Before his promotion, Wade served as general manager, and as vice president of audience for The Chronicle. He will continue his oversight of The Chronicle's news-gathering, digital, marketing, events and other day-to-day operations. Wade will also lead the expansion of new business diversification, as seen recently with the acquisition of BuzzOnBiz, LLC. Wade will report to Morris and Derek May, president of Morris Publishing Group.

"Steve has shown himself to be an exceptional business acumen, and this promotion reflects our confidence in his ability to expand our local media holdings," said William S. Morris IV, CEO of Morris Communications.

Wade's career spans 26 years in the media industry, including roles as regional publisher for BH Media Group in Florence, S.C., the senior group publisher for GateHouse Media in Independence, Mo., the editor and publisher of The Morning Sun in Pittsburg, Kan., and the director of operations for the Topeka Capital-Journal in Topeka, Kan.

"We are fortunate to have Steve on our team at Morris," said May. "We have a fantastic staff at Chronicle Media, and I look forward to seeing the business evolve under Steve's leadership."

"I can't say enough about our incredibly talented team," said Wade. "We are all dedicated to finding new, innovative ways to serve this market. I've said it before, and it's worth repeating, Augusta is a great place to live and work, and I'm very proud to be a part of this community and this establishment."

Wade has a Bachelor of Science in journalism, University of Kansas; Master of Business Administration, Florida Institute of Technology and has served in leadership roles in a variety of community organizations including chambers of commerce and the United Way.
