Summit to focus on business strategies for long-term profitability

Posted

An engaging three-day program for the 2014 News Industry Summit in Charlottesville, Va., has been announced by SNPA President Tom Silvestri, publisher of the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The program lays out a roadmap to long-term profitability for newspapers through community journalism, showcases what advertisers want, demonstrates the importance of reviving legendary brands, celebrates the inspiration of mentoring, and advances the roles of leadership, innovation and creativity.

"SNPA knows its loyal audience, so our goal from the start was to address the key challenges and opportunities that newspapers face in a refreshing style, allowing for lots of idea-sharing and networking among participants," Silvestri said.

The program, to be held Oct. 6-8 at the Boar's Head Inn, features:

  • Leadership lessons from a symphony conductor.
  • Cutting-edge research about reallocating legacy costs, transforming sales forces and building online community.
  • Insights from SNPA'S R&D partners about best practices and new products.
  • The role of media brands in the face of digital disruption.
  • Advertising perspectives from a retailer and a realtor.
  • Lessons from history about journalism, business and life in the South – WWTJD (Would Would Thomas Jefferson Do)?
  • Best ideas for audience growth and revenue generation.
  • A rip-roaring Town Hall to showcase the perspectives of the optimist, the pragmatist and the conserver – all of whom we know will be in attendance.

SNPA is offering a special reason to come to Central Virginia – included in the program is a behind-the-scenes tour of Monticello. You can bet your Jefferson nickel this will be a major highlight.

Based on the quality of the program, Silvestri is ready to offer a money-back guarantee (but he'd have to get board approval first!) for those who register in August. "Get out of your routine and book the time to spend in Charlottesville," Silvestri added,  "so you can renew your drive to excellence with the organization that's always had the publisher's best interest and well-being at heart. I'll buy you a glass of Virginia wine."

Discounted registration fees and special fees for first-time attendees continue until Sept. 15.
