Innovation: Notes from an incubator
More and more frequently, the advice to legacy media is to re-think conventional processes and adapt "a start-up mentality." During a Tuesday afternoon session at SNPA's News Industry Summit, the founder of Atlanta Tech Village – one of the 10 largest tech entrepreneurship centers in the country and the largest in the Southeast – will talk about the culture of innovation, and what it takes to transform an existing product into one that is better, faster and cheaper.
David Cummings, CEO at Atlanta Ventures and founder of Atlanta Tech Village, will cover the who, what, when, where, why and how of this 1,000-person innovation community.
Cummings has been an entrepreneur for more than 15 years. In early 2007, he co-founded Pardot, which was recognized by Inc. magazine as the 172nd fastest-growing company in 2012. Shortly thereafter, Pardot was acquired by ExactTarget in one of the largest SaaS acquisitions ever of a bootstrapped company.
Cummings subsequently was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year winner in the deal category. Most recently, he founded the Atlanta Tech Village, which at 103,000 square feet, is the largest technology entrepreneur center in the Southeast. The Atlanta Business Chronicle named him as one of the 100 most influential Atlantans.
Cummings is a member of YPO Southern 7, Atlanta Rotary, on the board of the Metro Atlanta Chamber, and on the board of the Buckhead Coalition. A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Cummings earned a bachelor of science degree in economics from Duke University and an honorary doctorate from Mercer University.
He blogs daily at DavidCummings.org and tweets at @davidcummings.
