Dania Maxwell of the Naples Daily News in Naples, Fla., has been awarded top honors in SNPA's 2014 Photo Contest.

She was recognized with first-place honors in the video category, as well as the overall Grand Prize for a video titled "Little Man and the Pursuit of Happiness" – the story of a young man and his battle with brain cancer. 

Judges said Maxwell's mix of still photos and video was outstanding.  Right from the start, this video captivated them.  One judge called it "painfully beautiful," adding that she appreciated and applauds the smart use of natural sound and live music woven strategically throughout this piece, as well as the superb editing of the video.

The SNPA Photo / Video Contest recognizes and rewards excellence in newspaper photography. As the Grand Prize winner, Maxwell receives a $1,000 prize and an engraved award.

First-place in the spot news category was awarded to Rick McFarland of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock.

The first-place sports winner was Michael Woods, Northwest Arkansas Newspapers, Fayetteville.

First-place in the feature category went to Tim Fischer of the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Midland, Texas.
