Dale Morefield has returned to his roots.

The 49-year-old advertising and marketing specialist who began his career 27 years ago at The Enquirer-Journal in Monroe, N.C., has been named publisher of the thrice-weekly publication serving the city of Monroe and Union County.  The announcement was made by Rick Bean, publisher of The Herald-Sun (Durham, N.C.) and The High Point Enterprise and the group publisher for Paxton Media Group's N.C./Tenn./Georgia division.

"I'm very excited to announce Dale's return to The Enquirer-Journal," Bean said. "He is a quality guy who understands our industry well and has a passion for community journalism. I fully expect Dale to have a very positive impact on both this newspaper and the community."

Morefield first worked for The Enquirer-Journal part-time while attending Wingate University. Upon his graduation with a bachelor of arts degree in communications, Morefield joined the full-time staff of the E-J as an advertising representative in 1987.

Over the next 13 years, he worked his way up to advertising manager before leaving to pursue other career opportunities.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to once again be a part of the rich heritage of The Enquirer-Journal," Morefield said.

Morefield has worked for The Charlotte Business Journal and The Dolan Company publications.

"While I have been away for the past 15 years, I have continued to follow the paper and know firsthand the significance the paper has on the residents of Union County," Morefield said.

Morefield lives in Waxhaw with his wife Kris, and children, Samantha and Maggie. He has been active in the Waxhaw United Methodist Church.

"I sincerely feel I'm back 'home' and look forward to serving our readers and advertisers," he said.
