Patrick Birmingham has departed as president of the Knoxville (Tenn.) News Sentinel. He was a member of the SNPA Board of Directors, representing newspapers in Tennessee. The change was announced by Laura Hollingsworth, president of the USA Today Network/Tennessee and of The Tennessean in Nashville.

Birmingham joined the News Sentinel as president and publisher in 2009 when it was owned by the E.W. Scripps Co. In 2015, the News Sentinel became part of the Journal Media Group, which was purchased by the Gannett Co. in April.

Hollingsworth said a search would begin for a new president of the Knoxville news organization, which includes the Knoxnews.com digital products, the weekly Shopper-News publications, and the Greater Knoxville Business Journal.
