Join an SNPA Committee

Posted

SNPA needs your involvement in 2014!

Why should you join an SNPA committee?

  1. Volunteers who work on SNPA committees consistently report that they gain great personal and professional benefits from the close networking experience.
  2. Working with a committee costs nothing – all meetings take place via telephone – and involves just a few hours each year. However, the contribution of your time, talent and good ideas is a tremendous benefit for SNPA, its members and its programs.
  3. Committees are the backbone of SNPA. There is no better way to ensure that SNPA meets the needs of your company and its employees than by volunteering to work on an SNPA committee. It's a valuable experience. For you. For your company. For SNPA.

Standing committees named by SNPA President Tom Silvestri, president and publisher of the Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch, are:

Future Leaders and Mentoring – The Future Leaders and Mentoring Committee will develop, launch and monitor a two-way mentoring concept that brings together experienced newspaper executives to mentor, and learn from, young leaders and key voices in the industry.

Legal Affairs The Legal Affairs Committee will focus on legal, legislative and regulatory issues that impact the newspaper industry. Among its activities, the committee will provide content for the SNPA eBulletin and website, propose topics for meetings and webinars, and work with the SNPA board to formulate positions on legal issues of interest to the membership.

Networking and Membership The primary purpose of the Networking and Membership Committee is to make SNPA the premier networking group for newspaper publishers. As part of this effort, the committee will create a formal outreach program to key newspaper executives, improve the SNPA meeting and networking experience, develop membership marketing strategies, and integrate social media principles to promote the sharing of ideas, reach new audiences and promote member interaction.

Journalism Education/Professional Development The Journalism Education/Professional Development Committee serves as a liaison to educators and students at university journalism and mass communications programs and works with the SNPA staff to develop innovative and effective professional development programs.

Programs The Programs Committee develops the content for the annual SNPA News Industry Summit, works with representatives from other state and regional associations to coordinate joint programming, and perpetually examines and evaluates SNPA programs and services to maintain their relevance to association members.

Best Practices The Best Practices Committee identifies and evaluates best practices and innovative revenue-generating or efficiency-improving ideas, products and services to help newspapers and their related enterprises meet current and future needs. The committee will develop channels to disseminate industry-relevant research and white papers, create content for the SNPA website and eBulletin, and suggest topics and speakers for SNPA programs.
