David W. Compton recently joined Granite Publications as vice president and director of sales.

"Granite is extremely lucky to have David as part of the team," Granite CEO Brandi Chionsini said. "He brings a dedication for quality community journalism and an enthusiasm for the changes that are happening in our industry that are going to make a huge positive impact on Granite and our future."

Industry leaders have often categorized Compton's career path as unique. He was born with the industry ink in his blood, as his father was a reporter in the United States Army. By the age of 11, Compton had published his first column and sold his first newspaper ad. He has never strayed from the industry since entering it professionally in the early 1990s.

Compton has professionally led award-winning newspapers, magazines, websites and specialty publications across seven states with combined circulations over a half million and revenues topping $100 million. Most recently, he was with GateHouse Media, as regional publisher for Central Texas.

"Brandi is certainly impressive and this was the perfect time for me to join her at Granite. Over the past 20 years, I've had the privilege of mentoring under some of the great leaders in our industry. My ultimate goal is to combine the tools I've learned with 2015 technologies and inspire our team to better serve our communities and advance community journalism in any manner possible."

Compton's education and career may have carried him around the nation, but he has always taken great pride in his Texas heritage and says he always knew it was home.
