The McClatchy Company has named Robert "Bob" R. Brennan director of political and advocacy partnerships. Brennan arrives from The New Republic, where he was vice president of sales and strategic solutions.

Brennan joins McClatchy's corporate advertising team July 14. He will be based in Washington, D.C., and will coordinate political, campaign and advocacy advertising across McClatchy's 29 media properties.

"We are thrilled to welcome a talent such as Bob to our company," said Kim Nussbaum, McClatchy's vice president for advertising. "Bob comes into this new role at an important time ahead of the 2016 presidential election and congressional campaigns. Bob will serve as the one-stop contact for political ad agencies and campaigns looking to reach mass or highly-targeted audiences within McClatchy markets and effectively leverage our diverse portfolio of print and digital products."

Brennan, 34, was born and raised in Philadelphia and holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from The George Washington University. Prior to his position at The New Republic, Brennan worked as a national account director for the National Journal, served as the deputy national finance director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and worked on various congressional and presidential campaigns.

"McClatchy is a cutting-edge media organization delivering first-class journalism across a dynamic set of digital platforms," Brennan said. "I'm thrilled to be joining McClatchy and its forward-thinking team to quickly and creatively deliver amazing political and advocacy advertising opportunities for clients."
