Rob Angel named SVP, business development for Hearst Newspapers

Rob Angel has been named senior vice president, business development for Hearst Newspapers. The announcement was made by Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam, to whom Angel will report.

In this new role, Angel, 40, will be responsible for building out the company's portfolio of local media assets to better serve brands and advertisers. He will identify early stage new businesses, digital products and multimedia solutions that upgrade and extend Hearst's local media portfolio through partnerships, resale agreements or acquisitions. Angel will be based at Hearst Tower in New York City.

"Rob is an experienced local media executive with a proven track record of identifying high-value products and services," Aldam said. "We are committed to continuously upgrading our platforms and tools and Rob's leadership will be essential to fulfilling this mission."

Angel has been a strategic adviser to and investor in early stage digital companies. From 2008 to 2013, he served as a senior vice president at CityGrid/IACI, where he led the transformation of Citysearch to a content-based ad network and built a patented ad product used by local publishers and merchants at scale. Angel was vice president, media and advertising for Citysearch/IACI from 2006 to 2008. Before that, Angel was director of business development at Protexis Inc., and senior product manager at Paradata Systems Inc. He has a commerce degree from Dalhousie University and completed graduate studies in applied technology at ITI.
