Former newspaper carrier arrested

A former newspaper carrier has been arrested and charged with allegedly stealing newspapers from the Aiken (SC.) Standard.

Vernard Leroy Boatwright Jr., 42, of 1090 Horseshoe Bend Road in Aiken, is charged with simple larceny less than $1,000, according to a report provided by the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Boatwright was contracted as a newspaper carrier whose contract was canceled about a month ago, but since then police and other paper carriers were advised he may have been stealing newspapers to resell for profit, according to the report.
