Journalist safety is an increasingly prevalent concern for newsrooms – for journalists reporting abroad and for those covering stories here at home. From the recent protests in Ferguson, Mo., to extreme weather events on both coasts, journalists are faced with dangerous conditions in bringing important news to their audiences. As a result, The Associated Press is hearing from members about the need for guidance on ways to ensure journalist safety in the field.

To address these challenges, AP is hosting a DefinitiveSource webcast, "Journalist Safety: Guidelines and Best Practices," to share insights that newsrooms can use to protect the physical and mental well-being of journalists reporting from threatening or unstable environments.

Hear from Danny Spriggs, AP's vice president of global security, and Santiago Lyon, AP's vice president and director of photography, about the training and safety guidelines for staff and freelance journalists, as well as best practices for supporting the mental health of journalists sent into difficult situations. Additionally, David Goldman will share his experience covering news in Afghanistan and most recently in Ferguson.
