Tribune Publishing names new CEO as three executives depart 1/29/19

Tribune Publishing CEO Justin Dearborn has stepped down after nearly three years at the helm, the Chicago-based newspaper company announced.

Longtime Chicago newspaper executive Tim Knight was named CEO. Knight, who had served as president of the company, will also join the Tribune Publishing board.

The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, Va.) has been sold to tronc, formerly known as Tribune Publishing. It also owns the Daily Press of Newport News.

The cash purchase price was $34 million.

Justin Dearborn, chief executive officer of tronc, Inc., has been named chairman of the board of tronc. Michael Ferro is retiring from the Board of Directors as the company prepares to close on the $500 million sale of the Los Angeles Times to local ownership.


Tribune Interactive to house digital assets and pursue growth strategy for company 2/12/18

With an enhanced balance sheet following the sale of the California News Group, tronc, Inc. is embarking on a national digital growth strategy through its newly reorganized Tribune Interactive division, which will operate the digital functions of the company, as well as pursue strategic growth investments and acquisitions, such as its newly announced majority ownership in high growth consumer reviews and e-commerce company, BestReviews.
