HearstLive brings never-before-seen storytelling power to Hearst Tower 10/4/16

Hearst unveiled a first-of-its-kind media installation at a recent street party at its New York City headquarters. In addition to the launch of the HearstLive content platform, the night included a surprise performance from American tap dancing legend Savion Glover and the arrivals of noteworthy talent and VIPs from across Hearst's media properties.

HearstLive is a street level display housed in the base of Hearst headquarters in the landmarked Hearst Tower. The vibrant widow installation showcases continuously updated news, entertainment and information at a scale that has never before been seen in New York City.

Reporters Committee launches 'FOIA Wiki' beta 10/4/16

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press has launched a beta of the FOIA Wiki, a collaborative and evolving digital resource on the federal Freedom of Information Act. The FOIA Wiki is part legal guide, part community space for sharing information that aims to serve as a central hub on all manner of issues surrounding FOIA as the law celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Inventor Johannes Gutenberg failed 20 times when creating the printing press, but he saw its value. In comparison, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had followers within six hours because he understood social media's value.

The message that community newspapers also add great value to communities was one that presenter Penelope Muse Abernathy stressed during her "Thriving in a Networked Age" session at the 2016 News Industry Summit, held in September in Sarasota, Fla.

New Media Investment Group to acquire Columbia Daily Tribune 9/27/16

New Media Investment Group Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune.

The Daily Tribune has been owned by members of the Waters family for the past 111 years. The newspaper serves a large region in central Missouri with 15,000 daily and 17,000 Sunday circulation. Columbia is home to the University of Missouri with more than 30,000 students.
