GateHouse Florida announces launch of Inside Florida Politics 8/28/18

GateHouse Florida, a group of major Florida newspapers owned by GateHouse Media, has announced the creation of a statewide digital political reporting network called Inside Florida Politics anchored by a weekly audio podcast Inside Florida Politics.

Combining the reporting of The Palm Beach Post, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, The Florida Times-Union, Daytona Beach News-Journal, Lakeland Ledger, Gainesville Sun, Ocala Star-Banner and Northwest Florida Daily News, Inside Florida Politics will offer ongoing, in-depth political coverage for the State of Florida.

Meredith Corporation's Local Media Group has signed with TownNews.com for the content and video management of 17 television stations. Meredith's television group, based in Des Moines, Iowa, reaches more than 11 percent of U.S. households, with seven stations in the nation's Top 25 markets-including Atlanta, Phoenix, St. Louis and Portland – and 13 in the Top 50.

Statesman to end Ahora Sí, offer voluntary severance to all employees 8/14/18

Ahora Sí, the American-Statesman's weekly Spanish-language newspaper, will cease publication Oct. 11.

The announcement came at the same time the Statesman announced all its 200-plus employees would be eligible to take a voluntary severance package.

Staffers who take the voluntary severance package would depart the newspaper next month, the company said.

Scripps Howard Foundation establishes Howard Centers for investigative journalism 8/14/18

In a move to advance high-quality enterprise journalism, the Scripps Howard Foundation has announced a $6 million investment into the creation of two centers for investigative journalism.

Arizona State University and the University of Maryland will each receive $3 million over three years from the Scripps Howard Foundation to establish a Howard Center for Investigative Journalism at their institutions.

The Howard Centers will be multidisciplinary, graduate-level programs focused on training the next generation of reporters through hands-on investigative journalism projects. The Howard Centers' students will work with news organizations across the country to report stories of national or international importance to the public.

The Howard Centers honor the legacy of Roy W. Howard, former chairman of the Scripps-Howard newspaper chain and a pioneering news reporter.
