David Dunn-Rankin to Deliver Keynote Address at Workshop for Smaller Newspapers

David Dunn-Rankin, president of Sun Coast Media Group and president and publisher of the daily Charlotte Sun in Port Charlotte, will deliver the keynote address at SNPA's Workshop for Smaller Newspapers, to be held Sept. 15-17 in Atlanta.
 
In an address titled "The Role and the Future of Community Newspapers," Dunn-Rankin will talk about why he believes there is a great future for newspapers. And, he'll offer an overview of how your newspaper can be one of the winners.
 
In addition to publishing the 40,000-circulation daily, Sun Coast Media Group also publishes non-daily papers in Bartow, DeSoto, Englewood, Lake Wales, North Port, Punta Gorda and Venice, Fla.
 
Dunn-Rankin's background includes founding and successfully selling an Internet company. In addition, Sun Coast Media Group also owns a telephone company – DayStar Communications – that offers a competitive choice in telecommunications to the Southwest Florida business community.  DayStar Communications assists Florida businesses with such services as high-speed Internet access, local telephone service, long distance, fiber, wireless high-speed data, voice mail, e-mail and private networks. 
 
The annual Workshop for Smaller Newspapers is known for its emphasis on practical information and robust idea-sharing. It will focus this year on successful print ventures, new online revenue models, and innovative methods for building business and readership in community newspaper markets.
 
The program begins at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, with Dunn-Rankin's keynote address.  It concludes at noon on Friday, Sept. 17, with a segment led by industry consultant Mike Blinder called “What I Would Do on Monday if I Were Your Sales Manager.”
 
It features idea-sharing/problem-sharing sessions that have been traditional highlights of this workshop.

  • Pay walls and other online payment systems.
  • Innovations for growing classifieds.
